TORONTO, Oct. 12 /CNW/ - Between Saturday, October 13 and Friday,
October 19 customers at Shoppers Drug Mart/Pharmaprix stores across the
country will be able to donate to prostate cancer research at the till,
through the Tree of Life program.
For the fifth straight year, the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of
Canada (PCRFC) is partnering with Shoppers Drug Mart to offer this charitable
opportunity to customers. Between Oct. 13 and 19 customers can buy a leaf for
$1, a maple leaf for $5 or an apple for $50 to customize and post in store.
Proceeds will support prostate cancer research and local health charities.
This year Shoppers Optimum Card holders who donate to the campaign will
also have a chance to win a grand prize of 1 million Optimum points.
PCRFC has been a beneficiary of the Tree of Life program since 2003.
Since then, Shoppers Drug Mart and its customers have raised more than
$375,000 for prostate cancer research. The retail chain has also sponsored a
number of PCRFC's signature events.
The Tree of Life campaign is a community-based fundraising program held
across Canada each autumn. Since 2002 the campaign has raised more than
$7.1 million for Canadian health charities. This year alone, more than
245 organizations in 10 provinces and two territories will benefit from the
proceeds. The PCRFC is one of four national charities selected for
participation in the campaign.
