New slim-line AQUOS(R) D64U LCD TVs put a bigger, clearer picture into a
MISSISSAUGA, ON, Sept. 12 /CNW/ - Sharp Electronics, the leading
innovator in LCD technology, today announced immediate availability in Canada
of the stylish new AQUOS(R) D64U series of full-HD 1080p LCD televisions.
Featuring a remarkable thin, lightweight, and slim-line design, the D64U
series combines Sharp's renowned picture quality with a unique space-saving
"By making the AQUOS D64 series smaller, we've effectively made them
bigger," said Kevin Andrews, Display Product Manager, Consumer Electronics,
Sharp Electronics of Canada. "With this elegant, space-saving design,
consumers can now fit a 42" screen into about the same space that a 40" TV
would previously have taken up."
Reinforcing Sharp's 30-year mastery of LCD technology, the AQUOS D64
series features an innovative re-engineering of the internal circuitry and a
reduced number of parts, to create the thinnest large screen flat panel
television in the industry(*). The body of these new TVs is approximately 25%
slimmer and almost 20% lighter than previous AQUOS models.
The D64 series also features a thinner bezel, and close-contoured hidden
speakers, maximizing the screen size possible within the available space. This
revolutionary design improvement, coupled with easily accessible side
terminals, provides much more flexibility in wall-mounting applications. The
new AQUOS models are available in 42-inch (LC42D64U), 46-inch (LC46D64U),
52-inch (LC52D64U) and 65-inch (LC65D64U) screen sizes.
The D64 line also comes equipped with a host of connectivity options for
the utmost convenience. For easy access in wall mounted installations, the
series includes three side terminal inputs: one HDMI(TM), one component, and
one composite. In the rear, there are two additional HDMI(TM) inputs, one
component, two composite, one S-video, a dedicated PC input and RS-232C for
system control. The HDMI(TM) and component inputs are compatible with 1080p
signals from Blu-ray and advanced gaming devices. The HDMI(TM) inputs also
support version 1.3 of the HDMI standard, increasing both the speed and colour
depth of the on-screen display, as well as supporting the new lossless
compressed audio formats available with compatible devices.
Overall, the AQUOS D64U series has been designed to provide a
top-of-the-line home theatre experience. Utilizing Sharp's proprietary
Advanced Super View (ASV) / Black TFT Panel with Multi-Pixel Technology, the
D64 sets provide a superior Full HD 1080p picture with unmatched performance.
Manufactured at Sharp's state-of-the-art Kameyama LCD factory, the company's
ASV panels feature decreased colourshift and extraordinary LCD performance,
enabling an impressive Dynamic Contrast Ratio of 10,000:1, with Enhanced
Picture Contrast Technology. In addition, Sharp's Enhanced Fine Motion video
circuitry delivers the industry's fastest pixel response time of 4 ms(xx),
providing stunning picture quality even on fast-moving action scenes.
Black levels have also been enhanced on these models for the deepest,
most accurate levels of any LCD TV. Sharp's proprietary 4-wavelength backlight
system rounds out the enhanced specifications, providing deeper, more vibrant
reds. Viewing angles on the D64 series sets are an impressive 176 degrees,
enabling the color reproduction to appear vivid from virtually anywhere in the
In addition to being physically lighter and slimmer, the D64U models also
exemplify Sharp's ongoing global effort to minimize the company's impact on
the environment. They are Energy Star(R) qualified, and feature reduced power
consumption compared to previous AQUOS models.
