Science North wins Tourism Marketing Award



    SUDBURY, ON, Oct. 4 /CNW/ - Science North received a top marketing honour
last night at the Ontario Tourism Marketing Awards in Ottawa. The award for
Best Marketing Initiative Under $25,000 recognized a campaign that promoted
Grossology, a popular kids' exhibit.
    "The Grossology exhibit had to compete against a major sporting event in
Sudbury, but Science North managed to make the best of the situation by
marketing the exhibit to visiting friends and family, day trippers, sports
fans and players," said Robin Garrett, President and CEO of the Ontario
Tourism Marketing Partnership (OTMPC), which administers the awards.
    The winners of the third annual Ontario Tourism Marketing Awards were
announced during the province's two-day tourism marketing summit, held in
Ottawa.
    The awards recognize marketing campaigns and news stories that
successfully promote the province as a must-see destination. Nominations were
open to all organizations or individuals in the tourism hospitality industry
operating in Ontario. The categories covered key sectors within the tourism
industry including travel trade, industry, journalism and photography. OTMPC
Chair William Duron acted as master of ceremonies during the awards
presentation.
    "Congratulations to Science North for taking a challenging situation and
turning it into a success story," said Duron. "Thanks to an effective
campaign, the Grossology exhibit's attendance and revenue goals were
exceeded."
