McGuinty Government Puts School Information In One Place For Parents

    TORONTO, April 4 /CNW/ -

    NEWS

Parents have a new way to find out more about the province's schools.
The School Information Finder (http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/sift/) is now
available on the Ministry of Education website. Based on a tool developed to
help principals find and learn from schools similar to their own, the School
Information Finder helps parents and the general public learn more about all
of Ontario's publicly funded schools.
The tool enhances openness and transparency by bringing already public
information together on one reliable, easy-to-access website. Parents can now
search for schools in a variety of ways, view school profiles and compare the
data for up to three schools at a time.
The school profiles include general information about the school (e.g.,
enrolment), student achievement information (e.g., Grade 6 reading scores) and
student population information (e.g., students' first language).

    QUOTES

"Parents - like all citizens - want clear information and transparency
from government. Our new School Information Finder combines student
achievement scores, school demographics and other data to give parents a
fuller picture of each school."
    - Kathleen Wynne, Minister of Education

    QUICK FACTS

    - The tool also provides links to each school's website (where
available) to provide an even richer and more complete profile of
        each school.

    - Users can search for schools by town/city, postal code, school name
        or school board.

    - There are 5,024 school profiles in the school finder, including 4,057
at the elementary level and 967 at the secondary level.
