Judging panel includes DJ Tricky Moreira, MySpace Canada and Stanton
TORONTO, July 17 /CNW/ - Sauza(R) Tequila launches the Sauza(R) Canada DJ
Mix Off Challenge, a search for Canada's best deejay that will take place over
the course of the summer.
"The contest is open to all Canadian residents of legal drinking age and
will take place online at http://www.myspace.com/sauzatequila," says Franco
Timpano, Brand Manager for Sauza(R). "We're hoping to see lots for fresh and
unexpected talent that we can showcase at nightclubs across the country."
Artists will have the opportunity to produce a five minute set to submit
to judges. A regional judging panel consisting of local music industry experts
will judge the entries based on the following criteria: technical mixing
ability, originality, overall performance & energy, and tune selection (sets
can be a maximum of five minutes).
Contestants will be narrowed down to four semi-finalists who will be
awarded $1,000 each (plus other great prizes). Each semi-finalist will have a
chance to spin for the national judging panel at a local nightclub in Toronto,
Montreal, Vancouver or Calgary. Fans will be invited to vote for their
favourite semi-finalist online and these votes will be taken into
consideration by the national judging panel in determining the grand prize
winner. The grand prize includes $3,000.00 cash and an incredible package from
Stanton: the winner will receive STR8-150 turntables, DJPRO3000 headphones,
680.v3 mp4 cartridges, Uberstand laptop stand, Jetsetter DJ Bag. Other fun
prizing includes Sully Wong shoes, iPod socks and a Skype headset for a total
value of $6,200.00.
The national judging panel consists of Timpano, Sauza(R) Tequila Brand
Manager, Tricky Moreira (Blue Elephant Recordings/Flow 93.5), Sarah Lombard of
Stanton (deejay equipment) and Melissa Noel of MySpace Canada.
"My ears are open for the next best deejay and I'm looking forward to
keeping a close watch on this contest -- with a Sauza cocktail in hand no
doubt!" says Melissa Noel (DJ Lissa Monét) of MySpace Canada.
The contest runs in tandem with the launch of the new Sauza(R) Acai Berry
and Mango flavoured tequilas. A series of sampling events will be taking place
to taste the delicious new spirits.
