SASKATOON, Dec. 6 /CNW/ - The board of Saskatchewan's Health Quality
Council today announced that it has appointed Bonnie Brossart as the agency's
new Chief Executive Officer. Ms Brossart has served as interim CEO since
July 1, 2007.
Dan Florizone, chair of HQC, said the board is pleased Ms Brossart has
agreed to take on this leadership role. "These are exciting times for our
organization," said Florizone. "We are moving forward on our new strategic
plan. We are seeing positive changes in the system in response to our
improvement initiatives. And we are looking forward to working with a new
government and a new Minister of Health. Bonnie is the right person to lead
the Health Quality Council during this next phase of its important work to
improve patient care for Saskatchewan residents."
Bonnie Brossart has been with the Health Quality Council since its launch
in January 2003. Prior to her appointment as interim CEO, she served as Deputy
CEO for just over three years and co-led the Saskatchewan Chronic Disease
Management Collaborative, one of the province's largest quality improvement
initiatives ever undertaken. Before joining HQC, she was a researcher with a
health services research agency, a large tertiary hospital in Calgary, and the
Saskatchewan Ministry of Health.
Over the past decade, Bonnie has led or been involved in a number of
ground-breaking research projects, including
- analyses of regional variation in health service use;
- an evaluation of the cost-effectiveness of after-hospital home care,
- an innovative examination of the impact of funding cuts to rural
hospitals in the early 1990s.
Bonnie Brossart received her BA (Economics) from the University of
Calgary and her MA (Economics) from McMaster University.
The Health Quality Council (HQC) is an independent agency that measures
and reports on quality of care in Saskatchewan, promotes improvement, and
engages its partners in building a better health system.
