Royal Canadian Mint to showcase Canadian treasures at the Gold in the Americas exhibit of the Musée de la civilisation du Québec in 2008

QUEBEC CITY, Oct. 19 /CNW Telbec/ - The Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) will
celebrate a century of gold craftsmanship by officially sponsoring the 2008
Gold in the Americas exhibit of Quebec City's Musée de la civilisation du
Québec. A wealth of gold creations and artefacts will be on display from
April 2008 to January 2009. The RCM's chief contribution and the "pièce de
résistance" of the exhibit will be the Mint's dazzling 100-kg, 99.999% pure
gold bullion coin with a $1 million face value. This masterpiece was recently
recognized by Guinness World Records as the world's largest gold coin.
"The Royal Canadian Mint is proud to showcase the skill and artistry
which have made it one of the world's premier refiners and producers of gold
bullion products and collector coins," said Ian E. Bennett, RCM President and
CEO. "As the Mint celebrates its centennial in 2008, we are pleased to join
Quebec City in marking its 400th anniversary in such a remarkable way."
Joining the RCM's 100-kg, 99.999% pure gold bullion coin in the RCM's
exhibit will be various gold bullion products, ranging from a collection of
400-ounce solid gold bars to a specimen of the Mint's new Vancouver 2010
Olympic Winter Games Gold Maple Leaf bullion coin, the world's first bullion
coin ever produced to celebrate an Olympic Games. Coin enthusiasts young and
old will also be treated to a showcase of precious gold collector coins, from
the award-winning 1997 Haida "Raven Bringing Light to the World" to the 1984
Jacques Cartier "Voyage of Discovery" coin, issued on the 450th anniversary of
Jacques Cartier's first landing in Canada.
