Royal Canadian Mint and Coinstar bring coin recycling to Quebec

New service in Quebec helps Canadians turn change into cash

    MONTREAL, Sept. 26 /CNW Telbec/ - September 26, 2007 - The Royal Canadian
Mint and Coinstar Inc., today announced that coin recycling through Coinstar
Centres is now available in the province of Quebec, helping consumers turn
their change into 'found money.'
New to Quebec, Coinstar kiosks are convenient, fast and reliably count
loose, unsorted change. No more sorting, counting or rolling your change -
just convenient cash in your pocket. Approximately 90 Coinstar Centres have
been installed throughout the province at participating Metro and Super C
grocery stores.
After the coins are counted at the Coinstar Centre, customers receive a
voucher to redeem for cash or to put toward store merchandise at the store's
checkout. The cost to use Coinstar is a service fee equal to 9.8 per cent of
the total value of the coins.
"Recycling coins is a cost-effective and efficient way to provide coins
to the marketplace," says Ian E. Bennett, President and CEO of the Royal
Canadian Mint. "The Mint, along with Coinstar, is making it possible for
Canadians to recycle their spare change and turn it into cash - fast."
"Coinstar pioneered self-service coin counting in the early 1990s in the
United States, and now we're very pleased to bring the Coinstar service to
Canada and to the residents of Quebec," said Alex Camara, Senior Vice
President and General Manager of Worldwide Coin at Coinstar, Inc. "In
cooperation with the Royal Canadian Mint, we can not only help recycle the
vast number of coins out of circulation, but help consumers easily turn their
coins into cash without the hassle of sorting, wrapping and rolling."
Coinstar Centres are located in communities across the province of
Quebec, including:

    - Laval
    - Gatineau
    - Trois Rivières
    - Longueuil
    - Sherbrooke
    - Boucherville

Over the past year, the Royal Canadian Mint, in cooperation with
Coinstar, has continued to expand its recycling program. More than
300 Coinstar Centres are now installed in Southern Ontario, Ottawa, and now
Quebec. Many consumers never cash in their spare change, because they've
simply forgotten about it, do not realize the value, or haven't had an
opportunity to use it in daily transactions.
