RICHMOND, BC, Aug. 11 /CNW/ - With a legacy spanning 20 years of
providing home entertainment products to customers across Canada, Rogers Video
is updating its name to Rogers Plus.
"This change reflects our continuing commitment to movies and games while
at the same time increasing the presence of Rogers Cable and Rogers Wireless
products and services in our stores," says Chuck van der Lee, President and
CEO for Rogers Retail.
The transition from Rogers Video to Rogers Plus will take place between
August and December 2008 on a city-by-city basis across the country. The
intention is to recognize the growing importance of these stores in providing
customers with a more consistent experience where they will find a wider
variety of Rogers' products and services in all Plus stores.
"The name Rogers Plus better reflects what we provide our customers,"
explains van der Lee. "It means more products such as movies, games, cable,
internet and cell phones and more expertise in more locations coast-to-coast."
The stores converting from Rogers Video to Rogers Plus will have a
combination of movies and games and wireless products. Cable products are sold
in Rogers' cable licensed areas in Ontario and New Brunswick. Other
Rogers Plus stores, mostly smaller mall kiosks, will focus on wireless
products and services.
Rogers entered the home video business in 1988 right around the time the
battle between VHS and Beta was in full swing. The company has continuously
adapted to industry changes, increased competition and the more recent format
battles between Blu-Ray and HD-DVD.
"Home video and game rentals continues to be a thriving, vibrant,
industry in Canada and we are committed to this part of our business," adds
van der Lee.
