MONTREAL, May 19 /CNW/ - Marc Blondeau, Senior Vice-President of Consumer
Publishing, Rogers Publishing Limited, today announced expanded responsibility
for Marie-José Desmarais by appointing her to the position of Publisher at
Châtelaine. Desmarais assumes the role of publisher for Quebec's most
influential women's media brand in addition to her current role as publisher
of the French and English editions of LOULOU.
"Marie-José is one of the most respected talents in the industry - both
nationally and here in Quebec," said Blondeau. "We're very excited about the
next chapter that will unfold under her leadership."
"I am delighted at the opportunity to lead the very talented team at
Châtelaine," said Desmarais. "The magazine holds a unique place in the hearts
of the women of Quebec. It's an honour to assume such a key role at a
publication that is so intricately woven into the fabric of women's lives."
Since its launch, Châtelaine has consistently been the magazine of record
for Quebec women and will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year. The
award-winning publication has enjoyed particularly heightened relevance since
it was redesigned in 2002 by Lise Ravary, who was at that time Châtelaine's
editor-in-chief. Ravary is currently vice-president and editorial director,
women's titles and new print products at Rogers Consumer Publishing.
In her more than two decades in magazine publishing, Desmarais has served
in a variety of important and high-profile roles at several publications. From
1992 to 1999, she contributed to Châtelaine magazine while raising two
children. She later became lifestyle director for the publication. In 2004,
she was appointed as the founding editor-in-chief at LOULOU magazines -
overseeing the content of a brand that became the envy of the industry as it
established itself as the most successful (and only) French/English launch of
its kind in the country. In 2006, she also assumed the role of publisher for
the magazines. Desmarais was active in making LOULOU a multi-platform brand,
successful both in its print and web incarnations - an area where she intends
to focus in her new role at Châtelaine.
Since late 2008, she has been the acting editor of Châtelaine, working
closely with Kerry Mitchell, publisher of Châtelaine and Chatelaine. Mitchell
will continue to lead the day-to-day management of Chatelaine while also
driving overall brand strategy and growth at both Châtelaine and Chatelaine.
Mitchell and Desmarais will continue to collaborate closely as Desmarais
assumes her new role - working together to build on the legacy of Canada's
leading women's media brand.
Desmarais' first priority will be to recruit the publication's next
editor-in-chief, who will report directly to her.
