Rogers Broadcasting Limited in North Bay to receive Fire Safety Award

TORONTO, May 27 /CNW/ - Rogers Broadcasting Limited in North Bay will
receive a Fire Safety Award from the Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council
at a ceremony on June 3, 2009 in Toronto. The annual Fire Safety Awards
recognize outstanding contributions to fire protection and prevention in
Ontario.
The sister stations of Rogers Broadcasting Limited
(EZRock/600CKAT/102Fox) have partnered with North Bay Fire & Emergency
Services on a number of occasions to ensure residents are aware of important
fire safety and injury prevention messages. In January 2008, Rogers
Broadcasting Limited donated more than $40,000 in airtime to air messages from
the injury program, Risk Watch. Each month a different message was aired. In
total, the messages were aired approximately 56 times on each of the three
sister stations and the link to the program was posted on the respective
stations' websites. Rogers Broadcasting Limited also contributed prizes at
Risk Watch events and promoted fundraising activities in support of the
program.
In addition to their support with the Risk Watch program, Rogers
Broadcasting Limited proudly assists in promoting fire safety activities and
events by announcing them on the radio or sending crews to attend.
"The impact of this relationship with Rogers is that injury prevention
and fire safety messages are being distributed to a larger audience," said
Ontario Fire Marshal Pat Burke. "As a trusted and credible news source, Rogers
is affecting positive change in North Bay."
Fire departments throughout the province nominated individuals and
organizations for this year's awards; 20 recipients were selected. The
Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services Rick Bartolucci and
Fire Marshal Burke will present the awards at a luncheon ceremony at the
Sutton Place Hotel in Toronto.
