Rogers begins trial of next generation network in Atlantic Canada

Moncton selected as first city in Atlantic Canada to test advanced
    wireless services

TORONTO, Oct. 18 /CNW/ - Rogers Wireless today announced that a field
trial of its 3G next generation High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) network is
underway in Moncton, New Brunswick.
This High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) network is the fastest and most
advanced wireless network in Canada and will allow Rogers to offer customers
in Atlantic Canada the full suite of Rogers Vision services, including
wireless video calling, video on demand and radio on demand. Rogers is the
first and only wireless provider in North America to offer video calling.
"Rogers began its rollout of the Rogers Vision services in April and
these are now available to 60% of the Canadian population," said John Boynton,
Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Rogers Wireless. "When the
technical trial in Moncton is complete, we will announce the readiness of
these unique services to the public in the first quarter of 2008."
HSPA is the latest evolution of GSM, the world-wide standard for mobile
wireless communications. This 3G protocol significantly improves download
speeds on wireless devices, providing a user experience similar to broadband
high-speed services.
