rL Solutions Awards Toronto East General Hospital with 2007 CHEQA Award for Significantly Reducing Wait Times for Lung Cancer Patients by 71%



    $15,000 Award Granted to Time to Treat Program

    TORONTO, Oct. 30 /CNW/ - rL Solutions, the leading provider of healthcare
quality and safety software, presented the Toronto East General Hospital
(TEGH) with the rL Solutions Canadian Healthcare Excellence Quality Award
(CHEQA), valued at $15,000 for their "Lung Cancer: Time to Treat" program for
reductions in wait times for suspected lung cancer patients.
    "Toronto East General Hospital is proud to be this year's CHEQA

Officer, "Our commitment to continuously improving the quality of services
delivered to our patients is a strategic priority for TEGH. Being recognized
with this award means a lot to us."
    The goal of the Lung Cancer: Time to Treat program was to minimize delays
in diagnosis and treatment of patients with suspicious clinical or imaging
suggestive of lung cancer. In addition, the hospital wanted to promote a
multidisciplinary tumor review board to establish the best appropriate care
for patients with diagnosis of lunch cancer.
    Overall time from X-ray to diagnosis was reduced from 127.8 days to
30.8 days, a 71 per cent reduction. The majority of physicians (from 70 to
100 per cent) rated the treatment processes as better or significantly better
as a result of the system redesign.
