Ritchie Bros. to conduct unreserved public agricultural auction for KFC Farms Ltd. in Cache Creek, BC

Highlights include real estate, a purebred livestock dispersal and farm equipment

CACHE CREEK, BC, May 18 /CNW/ - Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers (NYSE and TSX: RBA), the world's largest industrial auctioneer, is conducting an unreserved agricultural auction for KFC Farms Ltd., a purebred cattle operation located in Cache Creek. The complete dispersal auction will be held on the KFC Farm on Saturday, May 28 starting at 10:00 a.m. (live internet broadcast starting at 12 p.m.). The auction will include real estate in Cache Creek and Burns Lake—located just West of Prince George—purebred Angus livestock and farm equipment. Every item will be sold to the highest bidder on auction day—regardless of price—with no minimum bids or reserve prices. Bidders can bid in person at the site on auction day, online in real time at www.rbauction.com, or by proxy.

KFC Farms was founded by Ken Friesen and his wife Judy Friesen in the early 1980s. Mr. Friesen developed a passion for farming and the cattle industry in his youth as a member of 4-H and the Junior Hereford Association. He eventually turned his passion into a lifelong hobby and viable business; KFC Farms Ltd. is now a two-tiered operation comprised of a purebred herd of 200+ registered Angus females and a commercial herd of 500+ cows.

"I love this business and have been involved in it for many years, however, managing a large-scale cattle breeding operation takes a lot of time and work. As a result, I've decided to disperse of the purebred cattle of my business to focus on expanding my commercial herd," said Mr. Friesen. "Ritchie Bros.' past successes with the Chai Na Ta and Northern Black Angus unreserved auctions in Kamloops a few years ago, combined with their marketing penetration to find and reach the right buyers, made them the logical choice to disperse of my farm assets in one sale."

Farm equipment - smaller items to be sold at 10 a.m.; larger items to be sold after real estate
More than 120+ items of farm equipment and assets will be sold in the auction. Items include John Deere equipment, including a 2004 John Deere 6415 MFWD tractor and a hydraulic excavator. The auction will also include 2WD tractors, balers, mowers, livestock feeders, irrigation equipment, grain handling equipment, hay cutting and haying equipment, landscape equipment, spreaders, trailers, flatbeds and pickup trucks.

Real estate - to be sold at approximately 12 p.m.
CACHE CREEK - Real estate being sold in the auction includes 337±-title acres in Cache Creek. The property includes one home quarter and two parcels of land with a 750 head feed lot capacity. All three parcels of land will be sold together as one lot to the highest bidder on auction day. In addition to cattle ranching, the property is well suited for dairy farming due to its close proximity to the Fraser Valley and moderate climate for rearing young stock and growing additional forage.

The property, comprised of 12 parcels of land, includes a supply of processed aggregate along with additional gravel reserves for future expansion. All 12 parcels will be sold together as one lot to the highest bidder on auction day. Angus livestock - to be sold in the afternoon after larger farm equipment
Approximately 80 percent of the herd at KFC Farms is comprised of Black Angus, with Red Angus making up the remaining 20 percent. The herd is also managed very similarly to a commercial herd in that cows are expected to calve unassisted and raise young on their own with the help of creep feed or other supplementation. Calving ease, efficient forage conversion, moderate structurally correct stature, impressive performance data and top quality carcass composition are the traits defining the farm's breeding program. Livestock being sold in the May 28th auction includes:

  • 200+ registered Angus cows and calf pairs
  • 41 registered Angus replacement heifers
  • 45 registered Angus yearling bulls
  • 5 registered Angus mature sires.
