Hundreds of equipment and transportation items will be sold on auction
PARKSVILLE, BC, June 8 /CNW/ - Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers (NYSE and TSX:
RBA), the world's largest industrial auctioneer, will be conducting a complete
dispersal for Parksville-based Ballenas Engineering Ltd., a long-time Ritchie
Bros. customer and general contractor involved in road building, sewer and
water construction, and the trucking and forestry industries.
The unreserved equipment auction will be held on Ballenas' property
located at 1080 Industrial Way in Parksville on Monday, June 15, 2009 at 9:00
a.m. More than 350 items of equipment from the construction, forestry, and
transportation sectors will be sold unreserved to the highest bidders on
auction day with no minimum bids or reserve prices.
"It's very exciting for us to be conducting our very first industrial
equipment auction in Parksville," said Adam Pruss, Area Manager, Ritchie Bros.
Auctioneers. "Ritchie Bros. is extremely honored that Ballenas Engineering
chose us to do this auction for them. They've been a very loyal customer of
ours for years and are now getting ready to retire."
Of the more than 350 equipment items being sold in the auction, more than
150 are part of the complete dispersal for Ballenas Engineering. Chew
Excavating, Ironside Contracting and Mars Industries are other owners also
selling equipment in the auction. Equipment being sold includes crawler
tractors, crawler loaders, hydraulic excavators, wheel loaders, motor graders,
compaction equipment and articulated dump trucks. In addition to a large
selection of transportation items, the auction will also feature the following
forestry equipment: feller bunchers, log loaders, log trailers and logging
Ballenas Engineering Ltd. formed in 1983, started out as Ring Contracting
in 1981 and purchased equipment at a Ritchie Bros. Vancouver auction for the
first time in 1985. "We resized our fleet every five years and always bought
some of our equipment through Ritchie Bros.," says Hans Heringa, owner of
Ballenas Engineering. "Ritchie Bros. auctions were always so frequent. When we
needed a piece of equipment for a job, we could get it." The company also
began to sell its equipment through Ritchie Bros. starting in 1995.
According to Heringa, convenience and reliability are what led him to
approach Ritchie Bros. to conduct the unreserved auction in Parksville. "It
was extremely convenient to have Ritchie Bros. come to us rather than have to
transport all this equipment to another location to sell," he says. "It's also
more straight forward and easier for us to liquidate our entire fleet in a
single auction than sell each piece of equipment individually. This way I know
we'll get fair market value for all of our equipment - we've always met with
nothing but success when dealing with Ritchie Bros."
