Producers reminded of December 31 deadline to apply
GUELPH, ON, Dec. 12 /CNW/ - Agricorp has begun printing and mailing Risk
Management Program (RMP) pre-harvest payments this week. The agency expects
more than 10,000 grain and oilseed producers who submitted complete
applications to receive their payments by Christmas with the balance going out
in the New Year.
"I am pleased that Agricorp partnered with industry to launch this new
program and start making payments so quickly," said Leo Guilbeault, Chair of
the Ontario Grain and Oilseed Safety Net Committee. "But I know many eligible
producers have not yet enrolled in RMP. December 31, 2007 is their last chance
to apply for 2007 RMP."
RMP was designed in consultation with representatives of the grain and
oilseed industry and the Ontario Federation of Agriculture, to help offset
losses from low commodity prices. The first run of pre-harvest payments will
deliver more than $40 million to grain and oilseed producers.
In view of the busy fall, and to give producers time to fully understand
the requirements of the new Risk Management Program (RMP), the application
deadline has been extended to December 31, 2007. RMP participants must also
secure coverage in the 2007 Canadian Agricultural Income Stabilization (CAIS)
program by December 31, 2007.
Pre-harvest market prices, 2007 premium examples, and other important
information are now available from Agricorp to help producers decide whether
to participate in RMP. Please visit Agricorp's website at www.agricorp.com for
