Retail Council of Canada Calls on All Political Leaders to Take a Stand on Credit Card Fees



    TORONTO, Sept. 12 /CNW/ - Retail Council of Canada (RCC) welcomes the New
Democratic Party (NDP)'s plan to address consumer issues, namely the
skyrocketing hidden credit card fees imposed on Canadians and calls on the
Liberal, Conservative, Green and Bloc Quebecois leaders to take a stance on
this issue. Canadians need to know what political leaders, if elected, will do
about the $4.5 billion dollars in hidden credit card fees paid by Canadians
each year.
    "Today, Jack Layton demonstrated that he was committed to joining RCC and
its coalition to fight against skyrocketing hidden credit card fees imposed by
Big Credit Card companies and the banks that issue their cards," said Diane J.
Brisebois, President and CEO of Retail Council of Canada. "We encourage all
the leaders to tell Canadians their plans for protecting Canadian consumers
and businesses."
    Earlier this week, RCC and a coalition of like-minded associations
launched "www.StopStickingItToUs.com," a national campaign against Big Credit
Card companies and the banks that issue their cards that have been imposing
skyrocketing hidden credit card fees on all Canadians.
    Over the next few weeks, politicians will be calling our homes and
knocking on Canadians' doors asking for support. RCC is asking Canadians to
stand and ask these politicians what their plan is to address the issue.
