Reporters Without Borders Canada will be holding a press conference at the University of Quebec in Montreal, Tuesday, February 5, on the occasion of the documentary filmmaker Mehrnoushe Solouki's return to Montréal after 10 months of being banned to leave Iran

MONTREAL, Feb. 4 /CNW Telbec/ - The nightmare is over for the
Franco-Iranian filmmaker Mehrnoushe Solouki who will be flying back home to
Montréal two weeks after the lifting of a 10-month-old ban on her leaving
Iran. Solouki went to Iran in December 2006 to make a documentary about the
events that followed the 1988 cease-fire between Iraq and Iran. She was
arrested on February 17 and imprisoned for a month in abject conditions at the
Evin prison, the same prison where Zarah Kazemi was killed. Released on March
18, 2007, after her parents posted a bail at the risk of losing their house,
she was banned from leaving Iran until only the 18th of January. She has not
been given back the footage she shot, which was confiscated after her arrest.
To denounce this dangerous degradation of freedom of expression,
Mehrnoushe Solouki will be speaking alongside François Bugingo, the President
of Reporters Without Borders Canada, and Denis McCready, film producer and
creator of the website www.freesoulouki.org.

The press conference will be held on

                 Tuesday, the 5th of February 2008, 10 a.m.

At the Hubert-Aquin Pavillion (Local A-M204) of the
                       University of Québec in Montréal
                        400, rue Sainte-Catherine Est
