    TV Newsmagazine

CALGARY, Sept. 14 /CNW/ - Helena DeVries, the anchor from Calgary's Shaw
Cable Channel 10 will be the new host of Energy TV, the Alberta-based
television news program focusing on the country's energy industry and its
importance globally.
Presented in two variations, an industry edition, targeting oil and gas
professionals in Alberta and Texas, as well as a national investment edition,
the program has exploded since its introduction in the fall of last year.
"I saw the growth potential and the appetite of audiences for information
about the business and couldn't pass up the opportunity to contribute to such
an important medium," stated DeVries.
She joins the show after an extensive broadcast career, having anchored
the channel primarily covering the Calgary community and increasing the
profile, quality, and viewership of Cable 10 in a short period of time. Prior
to Shaw, DeVries was a nationally broadcast host for the well known Weather
Network and also has extensive business reporting experience. She has also
produced a documentary on Crystal Meth for Shaw On-Demand, and is completing a
miniseries entitled "Crimes of Passion" on the W Network.
Energy TV airs nationally on Global Television Saturday mornings at
11:00, and the industry edition airs in the Calgary and Edmonton markets on
Sundays at noon starting September 23. Produced by Chandran Media, one of
North America's fastest growing media companies with broadcast, online and
event media properties, and operations across Canada and the United States,
the show can also be accessed at energytv.com and the American Version, Energy
TV U.S. airs in Houston and Dallas on ABC. In addition, the company is
producing the Energy TV Awards, a televised gala event at Flames Central in
Calgary on November 23, 2007, at the Petroleum Club in Houston on January 26,
2008. Dubbed 'The Oscars of the Energy Industry', it will recognize leading
companies in the sector.
Neil Chandran, the current co-host and executive producer of the show
hired DeVries based on her experience and recognition in the market. "She's a
dynamic individual," he says. "She has several contacts in the oil and gas
industry already, and I'm sure will quickly learn everything else she needs to
know in order to deliver valuable information and insight to our sophisticated
viewers."
