MONTREAL, April 30 /CNW Telbec/ - This morning in Toronto, as part of the
Web Offset Association's 55th annual conference, Transcontinental founder and
executive chairman, Rémi Marcoux, was honoured with the Harry V. Quadracci
VISION Award. Given to a printing industry executive who has shown outstanding
leadership, achievement and visionary excellence, this award bears the name of
the founder and president of Quad/Graphics, who passed away in 2002 and who
was the award's first recipient in 1999. It is among the highest honours
handed out by the North American printing industry.
In his acceptance speech, Rémi Marcoux said he was moved by this honour,
saying that it "reflects on Transcontinental and on all of our employees.
Those are the people that you are really honouring through me. If customers
are a company's raison d'être, its employees are the main reason for its
success." He then praised Harry V. Quadracci, whom he called a personal "role
model", particularly for "how close he was to his employees, and for his
company's sense of social responsibility."
Mr. Marcoux then talked about his vision for the future of printing in
this time of the Internet, digital applications and robotics. "These amazing
new tools," he said, "offer the new generation of visionary printers the
opportunity to meet the challenges of globalization in the years ahead." Among
the conditions for success, he mentioned the quality of people and processes,
and the implementation of a corporate culture based on "teamwork and
innovation". But in the end, he said, the benefits for customers, printers and
suppliers are what really count.
He concluded by saying that the printing industry is "well positioned
with great technology and people. With the catalyst of vision and innovation,
our industry will continue to be an important media for years to come.
Gutenberg can rest easy."
