Remembering for the Future! Large Gathering of the Leaders of Religious Congregations in Canada

    MONTREAL, June 2 /CNW Telbec/ - From June 5-9, 2008, the leaders of
religious congregations in Canada and their guests will gather in Quebec City
for the general assembly of the Canadian Religious Conference (CRC). Close to
400 people will be present at the assembly whose theme is Remembering for the
Future.
On the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the founding of Quebec City,
the CRC wishes to remember all those who have passed on the richness and
mission of religious life. Remembering the contribution of these women and men
religious in such areas as education, health, the promotion of women in
society and being present to the poor.
Remembering for the Future - Remembering not with a nostalgia for the
past, says CRC President Donna Geernaert, SC, but with an openness to new
horizons forging new pathways in the church and in contemporary society. Dare
to do so with creativity and confidence, just like the founders of our
religious congregations.
Father Timothy Radcliffe, OP, renowned international speaker and author
of numerous works on religious life will accompany the Assembly throughout its
activities. He will explore the challenges of religious life for today and
tomorrow as well as the role of congregational leaders in the face of these
challenges.
On June 7, 1,200 Quebec religious (sisters, brothers, and priests) will
make a pilgrimage to the Basilica of Saint Anne de Beaupré to give thanks and
to celebrate their joy and hope in the future of religious life. Vespers will
be held at 5:15 p.m. presided by Cardinal Marc Ouellet. Timothy Radcliffe, OP,
will give the homily. The celebration will conclude with the planting of a
tree and the unveiling of a plaque.
A meeting with the media will take place after the celebration on June 7
in a room adjacent to the Basilica. Timothy Radcliffe, OP, CRC President Donna
Geernaert, SC, and Vice-President Yvon Pomerleau, OP, will briefly address the
media and then be available for individual interviews.
Beginning June 6, a daily summary of activities will be posted on the CRC
website at www.crc-canada.org. Timothy Radcliffe's addresses will be made
available during the course of the Assembly meetings. You can now consult the
Assembly agenda online. The Canadian Religious Conference is the association
