OTTAWA, Jan. 30 /CNW Telbec/ - The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister
of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today announced the
reappointment of Mr. Ghislain Harvey of Saguenay, Quebec, as director of the
Royal Canadian Mint for a period of two years.
"I am pleased that Mr. Harvey has agreed to continue to serve as director
of the Royal Canadian Mint," said Minister Cannon. "His previous experience as
an administrator and as a member of the Mint's board of directors will be an
important asset to the organization."
Mr. Harvey holds a bachelor's degree in humanities from the Université du
Québec in Chicoutimi. He has worked in Quebec as head of municipal
administration for the cities of La Baie, Chicoutimi and Saguenay. A member of
the Order of Chartered Human Resources and Industrial Relations Advisors of
Quebec, he is also actively involved in the community and has sat on various
administrative councils, including the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean Regional Health
and Social Services Board.
The Royal Canadian Mint is a for-profit Crown corporation responsible for
the production of all circulation coinage in Canada. It also produces
circulation and numismatic coins, and investment coins and products for
domestic and international customers. As one of the largest refiners of
precious metals in the world, it refines, assays and stores gold and silver
for Canadian and foreign customers. The Mint is among the most advanced
minting operations in the world, employing over 770 people at its Ottawa
headquarters and at its Winnipeg production facility.
