Real Canadian Superstore is 1st Canadian national retailer to go bagless in British Columbia

    - Langford, BC location to be first big box store without plastic bags

BRAMPTON, ON, Nov. 8 /CNW/ - As a more responsible GREEN retailer, and in
response to Canadian consumer support for environmental initiatives, Langford
Real Canadian Superstore, scheduled to re-launch November 15, 2007, will be
the first major grocery and general merchandise retail store in British
Columbia to eliminate traditional plastic grocery bags at the checkouts.
In April of this year, Loblaw Companies Limited made a commitment to
reduce 1 billion plastic grocery bags from Canada's landfills within one year.
Reducing the amount of plastic grocery bags offered in stores, and offering
more sustainable choices, will help achieve this goal. Currently, Canadians
use about 10 billion plastic bags per year.
"As Canada's largest grocery retailer, we have a responsibility to help
reduce waste in our communities," says Galen G. Weston, Executive Chairman,
Loblaw Companies Limited. "Opening this store with bagless checkouts is
another step in the right direction."
In early 2008, Loblaw Companies will launch Maxi & Co in Sherbrooke,
Quebec as the first big box retail store to go bagless at the checkouts in the
province of Quebec. Sherbrooke will be the 3rd plastic-bagless Loblaw-owned
store. Milton, Ontario is the site of the first plastic-bagless Superstore.

    Innovative Shopping Experience.

    - Continuing Canada's Green Challenge: Langford Real Canadian Superstore,
followed by Maxi & Co in Sherbrooke, Quebec in early 2008, will be the
next phase of banner stores without plastic bags at the checkouts. With
the recent launch of PC(R) Green(R) Canada's Greenest Shopping Bag, a
new reusable shopping bag, customers will be encouraged to shop with
reusable bags. Additionally, customers can opt to use the PC(R) Green
Box(TM) which has been designed to fit in store shopping carts and can
hold up to the equivalent of 3 to 5 grocery bags!

Each household in Langford will be mailed a complimentary PC(R)
      Green(R) Bag and a coupon for a free PC(R) Green Box(TM) with a minimum
$25 purchase. Until December 8, 2007, shoppers will be offered a
      buy-one-get-one-free for the PC(R) Green(R) Bag and $1.00 off PC(R)
Green Box(TM). Shoppers may bring in any reusable bag, even from
      another retailer, for their purchases.

    - Customer-Centric Experience: Langford Real Canadian Superstore has a
unique improved store layout, clearer sight-lines, reduced clutter and
the addition of "Power Aisles" to clearly merchandise value and
      promotional items.

    - Easy to Understand Savings: Through simplification in the number of
price messages and signage, customers will have a better understanding
      of special offers and sales.

    - Joe Fresh Style(TM): Joe Fresh Style(TM) offers affordable, fashionable
and high quality apparel in a convenient and fun shopping environment.
With new items arriving in-store frequently, there will always be an
unexpected fashion treat to be found.

    - One-Stop Shop: As with all Real Canadian Superstores, Langford will
feature a great selection of food and general household goods.
