RDEE Canada kicks off 2009 Lauriers de la PME Competition

Ottawa, Feb. 25 /CNW Telbec/ - RDEE Canada (the Réseau de développement
économique et d'employabilité) announces the official launch of the fifth
Lauriers de la PME competition, a nationwide event directed at Francophone
businesses outside Quebec.
Gilles Croze, RDEE Canada President, today announced the start of the
competition in Ottawa, surrounded by partners, representatives of government
agencies, and some one hundred RDEE representatives from all provinces and
territories. In making his announcement, Mr. Croze stated that "The Lauriers
de la PME competition highlights the importance that Francophone businesses
operating in provinces and territories outside Quebec have for Canada's
economy. These businesses provide strong leadership support for community
economic development endeavours and foster a work environment in which
employees can grow and develop. In short, these guiding lights serve as models
for those who dream of some day achieving the same levels of success. The
growing number of such businesses represents a symbol of the prosperity of
Francophone minority communities in Canada."
The success of this competition is due to the valuable support provided
by a whole host of public- and private-sector partners. Federal partners that
have so far announced contributions to the 2009 competition include Canadian
Heritage (PCH), the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), Indian and
Northern Affairs Canada (INAC), Public Works and Government Services Canada
(PWGSC), the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC), and the Canadian
Tourism Commission (CTC). From the private sector, Fairmont Château Laurier,
Journal Les Affaires, Power Corporation, Marcil Lavallée, Shift Central, Delta
Ottawa, Voyages Rideau, Productions Rivard, Distantia - Internet solutions,
and Infusion Design have confirmed their support for this competition.
The 2009 Lauriers competition is open to any Francophone business outside
Quebec wishing to apply. There are four categories to the
competition--processing companies, commercial services companies, specialty
services companies, and micro-companies. To register, companies can contact
the RDEE in their province or territory.
