TORONTO, March 26 /CNW/ - The love of Canadian Country Music continues to
flourish nationwide, with Calgary's romance clearly, the longest and
strongest. Dubbed "Nashville North" Calgary boasts some of the world's best
country talent including, Paul Brandt, Terri Clarke, Duane Steele, and Gil
Grand. In addition to the household names, numerous independent artists are
"breaking" from the pack to either follow, or take the lead of those that have
garnered tremendous international acclaim. The process takes time and can be
lengthy without proper label and management direction and guidance. Enter, RAW
COUNTRY MUSIC, the most recent full service independent record company
providing management, production, distribution, and publishing to the
independent country artist.
Co-created over a four year period, RAW COUNTRY MUSIC grew from the
artist/manager relationship between Rob Russell and Pamela Poole. The natural
musical talent of Rob Russell brings the 'ear' to the business as Creative
Director and Producer, Rob will mentor and develop the talent of RCM, while
Pamela Poole whose film production management expertise provides the essential
business acumen to direct RCM in finance, accounting and resource management
functions as well provide the foundation for success in all record company
operations. Realizing that Indie Artists often lacked management, and/or music
business experience, had Rob and Pam spring in to action to co-create RCM to
"shave off years to the rise of stardom."
"Rob and I quickly learned that in The West, the support for Indie
Artists was lacking - especially the support systems so many Indie Artists
require when they are just breaking in to the music scene. When an artist
works with Raw Country Music, they don't have to spend time developing
business relationships or learning the business of music; they can just
concentrate on their art," stated Pamela.
RCM's formula is proven sound in the accomplishments of Rob Russell's
carer to date. In two short years, his album was created, his songs heard on
radio, and his reach has gone south of the border causing waves and eyebrows
to raise in Canada and the US. "I've never done the road, or slept in motels
that most artists feel they need to do to pay their dues," stated Rob. RCM's
formula for success is now, not in 15 years. The majority of artists with an
album under their belt, some radio airplay but no real network, time or money
to be able to launch and compete with the artist on major labels is RCM's
focus - not to mention, the many undiscovered talents across the country.
RCM plans to develop undiscovered new artists each year, and looks to
sign and grow the careers of six to eight artists who are somewhat established
over the next three years. "We will carefully choose the talent; find the
'diamond in the rough', without prejudice of gender, background, age, or race.
We will find those artists that are not 'cookie cutters' of present day
talent, but artists that have exceptional talent with no means to exploit
their musical dreams," stated Poole, "RCM will represent these artists and
provide them the management guidance and business savvy to fast track their
careers from the road to the stage."
In carving a niche, Raw Country Music has been preparing to launch for
the past two years. In doing so, some of the best in country music, were asked
to participate, to play an integral role in the business decisions RCM makes.
Joining RCM's Board of Directors is an illustrious professional panel
including Joe Wood, President, RDR Music Toronto. Bart McKay Productions (Brad
Johner Gord Bamford, Shane Yellowbird) has anchored the production and
engineering requirements for Rob Russell's new CD, TURNIN' HEADS, and RCM
looks forward to a continued successful studio/label relationship with Bart
Advisors to RCM include Wayne Logan, Fieldlaw Associate, Calgary, whose
extensive legal background in intellectual property business law will provide
new artists with the proper protocol when recording. Lee Robertshaw, Special
Advisor to the Board and part owner of Sirius Energy Inc., Calgary, will
advise the Board on any business related to shareholder agreements, warrants
and future offerings to present and future stakeholders. Public and media
relations for RCM will be managed by Toronto's Irene Carroll/Irene Carroll Et
"We are very excited about the creation and launch of Raw Country Music,"
stated Poole. "In Calgary, there is no-one that offers the services we are
