Rainy River Elementary Teachers Approve Tentative Agreement



    TORONTO, April 24 /CNW/ - Elementary public school teachers, members of
the Rainy River Elementary Teacher Local of the Elementary Teachers'
Federation of Ontario (ETFO), reached a tentative collective agreement with
the Rainy River District School Board yesterday evening following a lengthy
bargaining session.
    Rainy River occasional teachers reached a tentative collective agreement
yesterday morning.
    "This is quite an accomplishment for both our teacher and occasional
teacher locals to negotiate agreements on the same day. It's a testimony to
the dedication and perseverance of our bargaining teams," said ETFO President
David Clegg.
    "My bargaining team worked non-stop with tremendous dedication to get
this deal," said Sharon Preston, President of the ETFO Rainy River Elementary
Teacher Local. "Once the deal is ratified, it will ensure four years of
improved working conditions for all of my members."
    Details of the agreement will be available following a members'
ratification vote.
    The Rainy River Elementary Teacher Local represents approximately 130
public elementary school  teachers. Their contract expired August 31, 2008.

    The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario represents 73,000
elementary public school teachers and education workers across the province
and is the largest teacher federation in Canada.
