Railpower Technologies continues discussions with Union Pacific for extended delivery date of locomotives

    MONTREAL, June 15 /CNW Telbec/ - Railpower Technologies Corp. (TSX: P)
today announced that it is discussing with Union Pacific to extend the
delivery date of 98 refurbished road switcher locomotives. Last month,
Railpower stated that it could not meet the June 15 deadline for delivery of
all the locomotives, despite the increased production output. To date,
66 locomotives have been shipped from the plants. The contract, worth
CA$94 million, was awarded in 2005.
"Union Pacific has demonstrated flexibility that we very much
appreciate," said José Mathieu, President and CEO of Railpower. "We are
working closely with them to establish an extended deadline."
In May 2007, Railpower also announced that it was exploring the
possibility of operating its own manufacturing facility. During the second
quarter of 2007, an offer was made to purchase an existing facility in
Montreal. However, upon completing the due diligence process at the end of
May, it was decided that this site would not be suitable. "We are currently
looking at other sites and hope to be in a position to make an announcement in
the coming months," said José Mathieu.
