MONTREAL, Nov. 15 /CNW Telbec/ - On November 16, young patients from the
Sainte-Justine University Hospital Centre (Sainte-Justine UHC) will be
honoured on air in the Corus Quebec United for the Kids Radiothon. The six
Corus Quebec radio stations in Montreal (98.5 FM, CKOI 96.9, CKAC Sports, Q92,
940 Montreal and Info690), backed up by the network regional stations, will
broadcast special, fundraiser programs filled with wonderful emotions to
support the kids at Sainte-Justine UHC. CKOI 96.9 radio host Charles Lafortune
will be this year's official spokesperson.
Regular programming will be supplemented by interviews with children,
doctors and parents who have to live, each in his or her own way, with illness
on a daily basis. The radio lineup includes incredible personal stories - some
truly challenging - but with exciting accounts of major advances in medicine
as well. The kids will also get to learn firsthand about radio production and
broadcasting, since the six participating stations will be live on air in
Sainte-Justine's main lobby.
Throughout the day listeners will be invited to demonstrate their
generosity by calling 514-733-1111 or 1 888-733-0202. They can also make a
donation on-line by at www.unitedforkids.ca
The separate programs of each of the six participating stations will end
with a shared broadcast between 6:45 PM and 7:00 PM, when Pierre Boivin,
chairman of the board of the Sainte-Justine Hospital Foundation, Mario
Cecchini, vice-president of Corus Quebec, Sonia Benezra and Charles Lafortune
will announce the total funds raised during the event.
"The well-being of our children is one of those basic causes that brings
us all together - listeners, Corus Quebec announcers and our spokesperson,
Charles Lafortune. With six stations and all our announcers mobilized for this
event, and over 2 million listeners tuning in, we really are going to be
'United for the Kids' at Sainte-Justine on November 16," says Mario Cecchini.
"Just imagine if these were our own kids," adds emcee and spokesperson
Charles Lafortune. "Sainte-Justine treats children from all over Quebec.
Thanks to donations from Corus radio listeners, we can make sure every child
needing care at Sainte-Justine receives treatment that's equal to the finest
medical facilities in the world. I'd like to express my heartfelt thanks in
advance to everyone who will be giving added hope to the kids of
Sainte-Justine on November 16."
Speaking for the Sainte-Justine Hospital Foundation, president and
CEO Anièle Lecoq enthusiastically applauds this generous initiative. "The
Corus Quebec United for the Kids Radiothon is an extremely important event for
us. Thanks to their active involvement, all of Quebec is being invited to
provide support for our young patients. We're hoping the Radiothon has a long
future ahead, because it's definitely making a difference in the welfare of
the kids at Sainte-Justine today. Thank you, Corus Quebec!"
All funds raised during the radiothon will be donated to the
Sainte-Justine Hospital Foundation. Sainte-Justine UHC, which celebrates its
100th anniversary this year, is the largest university hospital centre in
Quebec devoted exclusively to children, adolescents and young mothers-to-be.
The hospital admits over 18,000 sick kids every year, 60% of them coming from
outside the Montreal area.
