    TORONTO, Oct. 9 /CNW/ - Everyone deserves to be among friends and family
to celebrate Thanksgiving. The Scott Mission will ensure that the City's most
needy and alone are not forgotten.
    On Thanksgiving Day, the Mission will give thanks to God for His
blessings by preparing a Thanksgiving meal for over 300 guests, thanks to the
support of hundreds of donors.
    "It's times like these when we can see that we really are the only family
some of our guests have," says David Smith, Executive Director of The Scott
Mission.

    
    Who:    David Smith, Executive Director of The Scott Mission along with
            clients, will be available for comment and photos/video.

    What:   Thanksgiving meal with all the trimmings. Menu includes: lentil
            soup, Caesar salad, Wellington à la chef (turkey and beef) with a
            brown sauce, roasted potatoes, stuffing, mixed vegetables and a
            holiday custard fruit pie.

    When:   Media are invited to attend on Monday, October 13 at 10:30 a.m.

    Where:  The Scott Mission Dining Room at 502 Spadina Avenue, Toronto,
            Ontario (northwest corner of College and Spadina).
    

    The Scott Mission has been responding to the needs of the poor, homeless,
abandoned and vulnerable of all ages since 1941 by offering practical,
emotional and spiritual support for thousands of people each year. Through its
efforts, the Mission, a Christian non-denominational organization based in
downtown Toronto, offers many programs to support the poor and homeless in our
community.
    The Scott Mission offers: hot meals (served twice a day, seven days a
week); a low-cost childcare centre; a summer camp and after-school program for
children and youth from low-income families; free good-quality clothing; bag
lunches; groceries; shower and laundry facilities for the homeless; a 45-bed
shelter; and out-of-town retreats for shut-ins.
