MONTREAL, Jan. 7 /CNW Telbec/ - Every major sporting event is usually
accompanied by an increase in human trafficking and prostitution. With the
approach of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, the Canadian Religious
Conference (CRC), representing major superiors of Catholic religious
congregations across Canada, is launching an educational kit entitled: We are
a Global Village - Human Trafficking and the 2010 Olympic Games. This kit was
designed for secondary school students in order to make them aware of the
reality of human trafficking in its many forms and its numerous root causes.
To mark this cross-country launch, the Canadian Religious Conference
invites you to attend a news conference on Tuesday, January 13 at 2 PM at the
Centre des Jeunes, operated by the Sisters of Sainte-Marie de Namur, at 101
Parent Avenue, Ottawa.
Speakers include: CRC President Yvon Pomerleau, OP; Member of Parliament
Joy Smith; Sister Rachelle Watier, OCS; and David Bouchard, anglophone
fieldworker for CRC. Representatives from school boards and other guests will
also be available for interviews.
