TORONTO, Feb. 6 /CNW/ - Is Canada protected against the bulk removal of
freshwater from its major natural basins?
Recent reports suggest No - and that federal action is urgently needed.
On Wednesday, February 6, the Program on Water Issues at the University
of Toronto's Munk Centre for International Studies will release A Model Act
for Preserving Canada's Waters - draft legislation prepared by the Canadian
Water Issues Council (CWIC) in association with the Program.
The draft law addresses the need for federal action. Can Canada enact
this type of legislation and still meet its trade obligations?
The release of A Model Act will be accompanied by an expert panel
discussion, which will be webcast and simultaneously translated.
