MONTREAL, May 19 /CNW Telbec/ - Media representatives are invited to the
first of a two-part symposium entitled "Exploring Diversity in
English-Speaking Quebec" hosted by the Quebec Community Groups Network (QCGN)
and its Greater Montreal Community Development Initiative (GMCDI) along with
the Association for Canadian Studies (ACS) and Concordia University's Quebec
English-Speaking Communities Research Network (QUESCREN). The first forum will
be held at the Atwater Library on Friday May 22, 2009 starting at 9 a.m.
Under the theme "Understanding Diversity in English-Speaking Montreal",
Friday's forum will raise the question of integration and specifically focus
upon community demographics, employment, health and social services, education
and the role of ethnocultural, ethnoracial and religiously-based
non-governmental organizations that contribute to the integration process.
Panel discussion will include community organizations, academics, researchers
and other societal institutions.
The second forum in the fall of 2009 will look at the historic and
contemporary experience of English-speaking migrants and how a sense of
community belonging and the feeling of inclusion can best be attained.
