TORONTO, June 6 /CNW/ -
WHAT: The Wines of South Africa trade association is presenting a free
wine fair in support of Camp Oochigeas at the LCBO Queens Quay
store. The Fair is also a salute to the 50th anniversary of the
store, which opened on June 2, 1958.
The public is invited to sample from a wide range of South African
wines paired with a variety of artisanal cheeses from Ontario and
Quebec. The South African suppliers are donating the normal fee
for participating in such an event to Camp Oochigeas.
Camp Oochigeas is one of Ontario's foremost camps for kids with
cancer located on a private lake outside Rosseau. Camp Ooch, as it
is affectionately called by the kids, offers eight weeks of summer
camp for children with cancer and bereaved siblings, weekends at
camp throughout the fall and winter, as well as year-round
programming. It also remains the only residential camp in Ontario
to provide on-site chemotherapy and blood transfusions.
The Queens Quay store is one of LCBO's busiest outlets, serving
downtown workers and residents as well as hotels and restaurants.
It opened on June 2, 1958, as a counter-style operation and was
converted to a self-serve store in the early 1970s. In 1993, the
store underwent a major renovation and the shopping area was
tripled in size. Last year, the store's VINTAGES fine wines and
spirits section was also expanded to better accommodate the more
than 6,000 new products released every year through VINTAGES.
