    TORONTO, Feb. 17 /CNW Telbec/ - The Canadian Electricity Association
(CEA) is launching its new and comprehensive sustainability and corporate
responsibility program - Sustainable Electricity. The new program focuses on
all three aspects of sustainable development - environmental, economic, and
social, as they relate to the electricity business.
    All 33 CEA member utilities are committed to sustainable development,
which means pursuing business strategies and activities that meet the needs of
customers, stakeholders and the communities in which we operate today, while
protecting and enhancing the human and natural resources that will be needed
in the future.
    The Honorable Mike Harcourt, chair of the Sustainable Electricity Public
Advisory Panel and former British Columbia Premier, Pat Youzwa, President and
CEO of SaskPower and chair of Sustainable Electricity's Executive Committee,
and Pierre Guimond, President and CEO of the Canadian Electricity Association
will be presenting the program's principles and discussing implications for
Canadians and for the electricity industry in Canada. Karl Smith, President
and CEO of FortisAlberta, will be making the collective commitment on the part
of the CEA members he represents as Chair of CEA's Board of Directors.
