/R E P E A T -- Invitation - Launch of an innovative food assistance program/

Fresh fruit and vegetables accessible to smaller budgets

MONTREAL, April 30 /CNW Telbec/ - Mrs. Johanne Théroux, Executive
Director of Moisson Montreal, wishes to invite media representatives to the
official launch of the Good Food Box program, an innovative program which
renders fresh fruit and vegetables accessible to those in need. The identity
of the new spokesperson for the project, a Québec television star, will also
be revealed during this event which will be held on Wednesday May 6th at 10:00
am at the St-Raymond Centre in the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce borough.
The Good Food Box bulk buying service offers access to high-quality
produce from local farmers at very low prices to individuals and families who
are financially fragile. This is a new food security program being explored to
ensure autonomy for low-income households.
Driven by Moisson Montreal and supported by several financial partners,
this project allows Canada's largest food bank to further the fight against
hunger, isolation and exclusion. As the current economic context becomes even
more difficult, this essential service will be called upon to continue to
grow.

    About Good Food Box (GFB):

Initiated in September 2003 as a food security project serving the
Notre-Dame-de-Grâce community, the Good Food Box became a regional pilot
project en September 2007 when the operations were transferred from the NDG
food depot to Moisson Montreal. Since that day, production has increased from
300 boxes of fruit and vegetables delivered to two boroughs to more than 1000
boxes delivered to 15 boroughs. This project is currently being developed in
Laval.
