Quebec workers optimistic - Findings of a CROP-CRHA survey

    MONTREAL, Sept. 3 /CNW Telbec/ - According to the findings of a CROP-CRHA
survey conducted on behalf of the Ordre des conseillers en ressources humaines
agréés just a few days before Labour Day, Quebec workers are very optimistic
about the future, despite the uncertainty created by the economic crisis.

    Workers confident about the future

The survey shows that 83% of respondents are optimistic about their
organization's future. At 78%, this figure is slightly lower in the Greater
Montreal area, compared to 94% in the Quebec City region. Among lower-wage
earners, the percentage of optimists fell to 67%.
"This optimistic attitude is definitely good news given its positive
impact on worker motivation," commented Florent Francoeur, CHRP, Ordre
president and CEO.

    Workload: a serious concern

However, the respondents did express a number of major concerns. When
they were asked what their employer's HR management priority should be in the
next few months, workload and work organization topped the list at 23%. This
figure rose to 40% among those earning between $80,000 and $100,000.
Pay and benefits took second place (at 20%), while internal communication
ranked third at 15%.
Priorities were different for workers in the lower income brackets
($40,000 and less): 32% considered better pay and benefits to be the main
issues their employers should tackle in future months.
"Now that many experts say we're nearing the end of the crisis, it's
crucial for employers to take action on the issues identified by their
employees since they are directly linked to workers' present and future
productivity," concluded Francoeur.
