- Sorel-Tracy Nissan saves $15,000 on energy bill with a new
environmentally friendly facility -
MISSISSAUGA, ON, Sept. 11 /CNW/ - Nissan Canada Inc. (NCI) and Québec
dealership Sorel-Tracy Nissan have partnered to design the first Canadian
environmentally friendly Nissan dealership as part of the Nissan Retail
Environment Design Initiative (NREDI) program. The program helps dealerships
incorporate the latest energy efficient technology into its design.
"Being 'green' is a huge responsibility and with Nissan's help, our
dealership is doing its part for the environment," said Sorel-Tracy owner,
Yves Ayotte. "With NREDI, we maintained the Nissan image while creating a
space that will have minimal impact on the environment."
With its new environmentally friendly design, the 10,000 sq. ft. property
of Sorel-Tracy has seen an annual reduction in its energy bill of over
Mr. Ayotte worked with sustainable engineering firm Concept-R to design a
building that would be significantly more energy efficient than the existing
dealership. Upon completion, the facility is now over 50 per cent more
efficient than the Canadian building energy code.
In October, 2005, engineers looked closely at the overall structure of
the dealership - in particular the windows and lighting, as they are important
parts of the overall image and can also significantly affect energy
efficiency. The dealership installed a high performance glazed glass which
allows the air conditioning capacity to be reduced by eight tons.
The dealership's lighting energy usage was also drastically reduced by
employing efficient light fixtures and design. Power usage is now less then 50
per cent of its previous amount, while still achieving the desired look and
feel for the showroom.
"The new lighting scheme is unique in that it automatically adjusts to
the amount of light coming from the outside," says Ronald Gagnon, project
Other energy efficient changes include exterior lighting which adjusts to
the sunrise and set, Geothermal heating and cooling systems, low-flow water
fixtures and automatic high-velocity hand-dryers.
