QUEBEC CITY, Aug. 3 /CNW Telbec/ - Ministère des Ressources naturelles et
de la Faune and Association de l'exploration minière du Québec today unveiled
the preliminary program for Québec Exploration 2009. Held this year under the
theme "Toward Sustainable Mining Exploration!" this major gathering will run
from November 23 to 26 at Château Frontenac in Québec City and will bring
together some 2,000 participants from the mining exploration sector and the
financial and scientific communities.
"A few weeks ago, I released the Québec government's first mineral
strategy, Preparing the Future of Québec's Mineral Sector, with the
determination to make mineral development an example of sustainable,
environmentally sound development that creates wealth and furthers social
progress for the benefit of all Quebecers. I am delighted that Québec
Exploration has also made sustainable development its theme in 2009. The
conference will reflect the new ways in which various industry players are
working together in order to ensure the mining sector develops harmoniously,"
said Serge Simard, delegated Minister for Natural Resources and Wildlife.
François Robert, chief geologist at Barrick Gold Corporation, will
preside as honorary chair of Québec Exploration 2009. Mr. Robert is currently
in charge of developing exploration concepts and tools as well as ensuring the
technical performance of exploration projects around the world for Barrick
Gold Corporation. He is also internationally recognized for his work on gold
deposits. "It is my great pleasure to serve as honorary chair of Québec
Exploration 2009. Given that Québec is reputed for its mineral potential and
its highly favorable mineral exploration and development environment, this
annual meeting is especially important. It has become a must for both
geoscientists who work in the field and those who plan on exploring in
Québec," he stated.
A diversified, quality program
In accordance with this year's theme, Québec Exploration 2009 will offer
its many participants the opportunity to attend presentations by nationally
and internationally renowned speakers and take part in workshops and
interactive sessions on topics such as environmental standards in mining
exploration and sustainable development. The comprehensive program will also
address new developments for gold deposits, the latest mineral potential
evaluation methods, mining investment, industrial minerals, and the Québec
government's brand new mineral strategy.
Exploration and Investment Forum
Despite the current economic conditions, mining exploration is continuing
and good investment opportunities are possible. This forum will allow
participants to attend talks and presentations by investment and exploration
"The mining sector remains optimistic with respect to recovery
possibilities. Our industry is capable of weathering economic crises and the
market cycles associated with them. Québec Exploration 2009 is the ideal event
to take stock of the situation," commented Ghislain Poirier, president of
Association de l'exploration minière du Québec.
