Quarterly Report - October 1 to December 31, 2010 - $72 million to be generated for Montréal's economy as the Palais des congrès convention centre secures 18 more major events

MONTREAL, Feb. 7, 2011 /CNW Telbec/ - For the quarter ending December 31, 2010, the Société du Palais des congrès de Montréal has confirmed it has secured 12 new international1 conventions and six national2 conventions. These major events represent economic spinoffs for Montréal and the province estimated at over $72M. Secured primarily with the cooperation of the Société's long-standing partner Tourisme Montréal, the events will result in more than 55,585 room nights being booked in hotels across the city.

"These results indicate that an economic recovery is taking place and represent a 32% increase in convention bookings over the same three-quarter period last year, pointing to the fact that 2011 will be an exceptional year for the Palais, during which we might shatter the city's record for most event-generated room nights, and that spells good news for the Montréal hotel industry," explains Marc Tremblay, the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Palais. "What's more, the diversity of the fields being represented at these conventions - engineering, life sciences, aeronautics, social sciences - speaks to how the Québec economy's key players are continuing to mobilize to advance the sharing of knowledge and to promote Montréal globally as a premier host city."

Total conventions secured during the year (April 1, 2010 - December 31, 2010)
International and national conventions: 37
Estimated room nights: 132 676
Estimated economic spinoffs: $181 586 423

Projected results from conventions hosted (April 1, 2010 - March 31, 2011)
International and national conventions: 30
Estimated room nights: 203 373
