SAN DIEGO, March 26 /CNW/ - Quake Global, Inc., a leading manufacturer of
asset tracking satellite modems, announced today that Faria WatchDog, Inc. has
chosen QUAKE's(R) Q9612 modem to provide two-way satellite communications for
its vessel monitoring system (VMS). The Q9612 is an integral component in the
Faria WatchDog VMS.
Faria WatchDog was recently type-approved by NOAA's National Marine
Fisheries Service (NMFS) for installation on commercial fishing vessels in
U.S. waters. This approval certifies that Faria WatchDog, with its integral
Q9612, meets the stringent federally mandated performance standards for
operation in U.S. Fisheries. NMFS regulations require all commercial fishing
vessels working in protected fisheries to be fitted with an approved tracking
device, permitting law enforcement authorities to monitor their locations.
"Faria WatchDog is the first major utilization of the Q9612 in a marine
application," said Polina Braunstein, President and CEO of Quake Global.
"QUAKE is proud that it was chosen by Faria to provide its modems for the
WatchDog. It should not be surprising to anyone that the creative team at
Faria produced a state-of-the-art product that stands up to the intense
scrutiny of NOAA's testing standards and procedures. Given Faria's success,
QUAKE expects that many other applications will soon be utilizing the Q9612."
"Our objective was to design and build the world's most versatile,
configurable, reliable and cost-effective marine satellite tracking and
communications system that meets both the National Marine Fishery Services'
stringent specifications and the demanding requirements of the commercial
fishing industry," said Dave Blackburn, president of Faria WatchDog. "The
proven reliability of QUAKE's products, and QUAKE's position as a successful
leader in the satellite communicator industry gave us confidence that the
modem portion of our Faria WatchDog would be just as strong and reliable as
the rest of the product. We could accept nothing less."
"This product has the potential to improve the industry's fishing
business. And, with the NOAA approval, we can now assist in protecting and
restoring the fishing habitat while simultaneously providing the commercial
fishing industry with technology that complies with all governmental
"Interest in WatchDog has now exceeded U.S. boundaries and the system
will soon undergo testing for certification by the Australian government as
well as other fisheries management programs worldwide," Blackburn added.
The Faria WatchDog 750 VMS is a dual-mode transceiver product that uses
Quake Global's Q9612 satellite modem for reporting position and data when out
of range of shore towers. When vessels are within the range of shore towers,
WatchDog utilizes the Cingular GSM network. The unit provides text messaging,
mandated VMS position reporting and activity code declarations, catch and
notification forms, and e-mail, as well as automatic transmission of required
VMS data information to law enforcement authorities.
