BELLEVILLE, ON, May 16 /CNW Telbec/ - VIA Rail Canada and CN will be
installing new track switches from May 17 to May 24th and from May 31st
to June 8th, between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m., along Airport Parkway
east adjacent to the Belleville airport. This technology enables trains
to transition from one track to the other.
In order to ensure the safest possible working conditions, the work is
being done mainly overnight, when there are fewer trains operating.
Every effort will be made to keep noise to a minimum and, as much as
possible, materials will moved and positioned during the day to reduce
the amount of noise at night.
Weekly work schedules can be viewed at www.viacorridor.ca. This information will be updated every Monday.
This project is linked with other work VIA is undertaking throughout its
Ontario - Quebec Corridor with the overall result being improvements in
train safety, additional frequencies and better on-time performance, as
well as reductions in travel time. All of this work, including
construction of a new station, adds up to better passenger rail service
for travellers and communities like Belleville.
Should you have any questions or comments, please call VIA's toll-free
inquiry line at 1-866-757-6778. Information regarding this project and
related ones is also available at www.viacorridor.ca.
