Public consultation begins on planned construction of 34-storey residential building and hotel at Mackay and René-Lévesque

MONTREAL, May 12 /CNW Telbec/ - The Office de consultation publique de
Montréal (OCPM) announces today the start of the consultation process on the
planned construction of a residential building and hotel at the corner of
Mackay and René-Lévesque in the west end of the borough of Ville-Marie.
The project consists in planning the construction of a 34-storey
residential building with 180 housing units, 230 underground parking spaces,
and a basilaire of four to six storeys comprising a hotel and retail spaces.
The complex will be erected on what is currently an outdoor parking lot, to
the north of four Victorian buildings along René-Lévesque Boulevard. Those
four residences will be integrated into the complex and their facades
restored. A building on Mackay Street will also be integrated to the project.
The project covers the entire property running north of the existing
buildings.
The project's implementation requires amendments to the Montréal Master
Plan and the planning by-law of the borough of Ville-Marie, primarily in terms
of height and density. As the draft by-law amending the zoning by-law of the
borough of Ville-Marie was adopted pursuant to section 89, subparagraph 3 of
the Charter of Ville de Montréal, it is not subject to approval by referendum.
The consultation will be held in two parts. Firstly, on Monday, May 25,
7:00 p.m., citizens and groups are invited to attend an information evening
where the developer will present the project and City representatives will
explain the nature of the draft by-laws required for its completion. Citizens
who attend may ask any questions they like about the project.
The second part, the presentation of briefs, will be held on Tuesday,
June 16, again at 7:00 p.m. Both meetings will be held at the offices of the
Office de consultation publique de Montréal, 1550 Metcalfe Street, 14th floor
(Peel Metro).
All information pertaining to the consultation is available at: the OCPM
offices; the Direction du greffe de la Ville de Montréal, 275 Notre-Dame
Street East; and the Ville-Marie borough office, 888 de Maisonneuve Boulevard
East, 5th floor. The documentation is also available on the Office Web site,
www.ocpm.qc.ca. For information, please call 514 872-8510.
