Psychologically Healthy Workplace Conference May 3 & 4, 2007



    ONTARIO PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION LAUNCHES INITIATIVE TO RECOGNIZE
    ORGANIZATIONS COMMITMENT TO EMPLOYEE HEALTH AND WELLBEING

    TORONTO, April 16 /CNW Telbec/ - The Ontario Psychological Association in
cooperation with the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management, the
DeGroote School of Business, McMaster University, the Departments of
Psychology at the University of Waterloo and Western, and Desjardins Financial
Services, is hosting the first Ontario Psychologically Healthy Workplace (PHW)
Conference on May 3 and 4, 2007 at the Rotman School of Management, University
of Toronto.
    The goal of the conference is to provide a forum for business,
organizations and companies to further their efforts towards creating
psychologically healthy workplaces and to kick off the 2007-2008 Ontario
Psychologically Healthy Workplace (PHW) Awards program. The Awards program
will honour and recognize those organizations that are leading the way in
creating psychologically healthy workplace culture.
    The Conference begins with a Thursday evening keynote, 'What Makes
Workplaces Well?' by Dr. Julian Barling, Professor of Organizational Behaviour
and Psychology, Queens University School of Business, and Queens University
Research Chair, and a prominent researcher and writer in the area of
psychological health and work, most recently The Psychology of Workplace
Safety.
    The conference continues on Friday with presentations and workshops on
best practices in creating psychologically healthy workplaces from, among
others, Doug Kube, Director of Human Resources, Purolator Courier; Dr. Alan
Saks, Professor of Organizational Behaviour and Human Resources, Rotman School
of Management; Dr. Kevin Kelloway, Professor of Management, Sobey School of
Business, St. Mary's University; and Steve Widmeyer of Secunda Marine
Services, an APA National PHW Awards winner.
    The Ontario PHW Awards program will recognize organizations, both public
and private, that are working to fostering employee health and well-being as
part of organizational performance and productivity. Ontario PHW Award winners
will join over 200 winners from forty-one State and Provincial Awards programs
and will be eligible for the APA National PHW Awards held annually at the
APA's Leadership Conference in March.
