Provincial Gas Tax Funds Support Parry Sound Transit

McGuinty Government Provides $33,000 For Bus System

    TORONTO, June 26 /CNW/ -

    NEWS

Parry Sound's bus service is getting a $33,150 boost from the Ontario
government. The funds will mean the town can expand bus service for residents
with disabilities.
The Town began offering bus service in summer 2007, becoming one of
110 municipalities to receive provincial gas tax funding for public transit.
Ontario shares two cents per litre from gas tax revenues with
municipalities for public transit. Since 2004, the government has provided
municipalities with more than $1 billion in gas tax funding, including more
than $314 million this year.

    QUOTES

"In towns such as Parry Sound, public transit is not just a greener
option - it is a lifeline for seniors and people with disabilities. Our
investments in public transit are improving access for residents," said
Minister of Transportation Jim Bradley.
"With our high seniors population, public transit is a very significant
issue for Parry Sound. The provincial gas tax funding means we'll be able to
improve our specialized transit service for people who use wheelchairs to get
around," said Parry Sound Mayor Richard Adams.
