MONTREAL, June 26 /CNW Telbec/ - Ingenio, Loto-Québec's research and
development arm and a major partner of the Québec Entrepreneurship Contest
(QEC) for the ninth year in a row, awarded its $5,000 Research and Development
Prize to Protec-Style Inc. at the 11th annual QEC Grand Prize Gala held at the
Centre des congrès de Québec on June 18, 2009. This prize is awarded to the
business that has most distinguished itself through its contribution to
research and development in a specific industry by complementing its main
activities with innovative accomplishments or original research.
Located in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Protec-Style Inc. specializes in the
production and marketing of antimicrobial clothing for healthcare
professionals. The company has developed a line of clothing that actively
protects against both bacteria and viruses, even after being laundered.
Moreover, Protec-Style Inc. has joined forces with internationally acclaimed
designer Jean-Claude Poitras who was brought on board to add a touch of style
and comfort to the company's truly innovative fashions.
"Ingenio's Research and Development selection jury particularly
appreciated how the company orchestrated the skilful blend of art and science,
of fashion and the requirements of protective clothing," explained Ingenio's
general manager Nathalie Rajotte, who served as jury chair. "The promoter
managed to perfect an innovative technological solution while working with a
network of strategic partners," she added.
According to François Simard, president and founder of the winning
company, such prizes serve to acknowledge years of hard work and provide the
encouragement needed to support initiatives like his, which are all the more
important in light of the current economic climate. It is worth noting that,
in addition to the Ingenio Prize, Protec-Style Inc. also received Léger
Marketing's special Marketing Strategy Prize and the Québec Entrepreneurship
Contest's First Prize for Technical and Technological Innovation. "I'm
thrilled by the recognition and visibility the Contest provides, a boost
that's especially important considering our international aspirations." The
