Ten students experienced a travel adventure extraordinaire
REGINA, Oct. 7 /CNW/ - Western Christian College and High School helped
train students to receive the education of a lifetime, thousands of miles from
home. Recently, ten students enjoyed an inter-cultural learning opportunity in
Antwerp, Belgium and China. Students were part of a Let's Start Talking
mission focus group that teaches English using books from the Bible as text.
In addition to learning about a different culture, customs and food, Western's
students discovered what it was like to be the foreigner. This amazing
opportunity to travel and serve others also placed students in a citizenship
role, not only for Western Christian, but also for Saskatchewan and Canada.
They were immersed in the daily life and ritual of their host community, a
very different environment from Regina, Saskatchewan. Students from the
2008 Let's Start Talking program learned the importance of volunteerism,
diversity of peoples and the impact that one individual can make for the
positive in any community whether home or abroad.
Students raised funds for their travel, and experienced a unique
faith-sharing through teaching. Their wholehearted participation made the 2008
trip another resounding success.
"We are proud to be aligned with the Let's Start Talking team that
contributes not only to the citizens of Regina, but that has an academic and
global reach, as well," said Kevin Vance, President of Western Christian
College and High School.
Traveling abroad is an enlightening experience, which can create a
lasting impact on a student's outlook on the world.
