Prince George Civic Workers Ratify Contract Agreement

PRINCE GEORGE, BC, June 19 /CNW/ - Prince George public workers ratified
their contract with the City last night. Members of CUPE Locals 1048 and 399
voted to accept the five-year agreement.
"We're pleased that we were able to reach an agreement with the help of
mediator Mark Atkinson," says Carlene Keddie, president of CUPE 1048.
"Everyone in our community should have job security and not have to worry that
they can provide for their families."
Dennis Marleau, president of CUPE 399 adds, "We're pleased that we can
continue providing quality services and we hope that this contract will help
us attract and keep workers in Prince George."
The contract will be in effect until December 31, 2012. It covers
approximately 600 inside and outside workers who keep the city running -
including public works, water and waste water, recreation services, parks, and
administration. It is expected that the City will ratify the agreement on
June 24.
