CALGARY, July 5 /CNW/ - The Spiritual Head of the Worldwide Ahmadiyya
Muslim Community inaugurated the Baitun Nur Mosque in Calgary, one of the
largest mosques in North America, by leading the weekly Friday prayer
services. This mosque opening was particularly significant as it occurred
during the 100th anniversary year of the establishment of the institution of
Khilafat (Succession) in the Community, as well as its re-establishment in the
Muslim world-at-large, and it was presided by the current Khalifa of the
Community, His Holiness Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the Khalifatul Masih V
(may Allah strengthen his hands).
On Saturday July 5th, the Community will host a banquet celebrating the
inauguration of the Baitun Nur Mosque. The banquet, which will be graced by
the presence of His Holiness, will be attended by the Right Honourable Prime
Minister Stephen Harper, the Right Honourable Stephane Dion (Leader of the
Opposition), His Worship Dave Bronconnier, Mayor of Calgary, as well as other
dignitaries and special guests.
In his Friday sermon, which was telecast live across the world via Muslim
Television Ahmadiyya (MTA) satellite service, His Holiness noted that the
current climate of Islamophobia in the West should be addressed with the
building of mosques that are not only striking and beautiful architectural
landmarks which enhance the local landscape but, more importantly, represent
and promote mutual peace, love and harmony in society. Such mosques will
demonstrate the true face of Islam making it attractive to non-Muslims.
Mosques should never be built with evil intent, rather, they should be built
solely to please God and serve humanity.
The Baitun Nur Mosque, consisting of over 48,000 square feet and costing
over $15 million, is a remarkable achievement. During his sermon, His Holiness
prayed that God bless the countless number of people who sacrificed
