PricewaterhouseCoopers celebrates 75 years of safeguarding Hollywood's best kept secrets

PwC is the official ballot accountants for the 2009 Oscars, Geminis,
    Genies and Junos

TORONTO, Feb. 19 /CNW/ - This year PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC)
celebrates its 75th anniversary of counting the Oscars(R) ballots for the
Annual Academy Awards on behalf of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and
Sciences. PwC Canada will also help to celebrate the achievements of artists
in Canada - as the official ballot accountants in 2009 for the three premiere
cultural awards in Canada: the Geminis, the Genies and the Junos.
"This year is particularly special for PwC, as we celebrate both our 75th
anniversary of counting the Oscars ballots on behalf of the Academy and our
first year as ballot accountants for all three major cultural awards in
Canada," says Tracey Jennings, national leader of PwC Canada's Entertainment &
Media practice. "We believe it is vital to support the cultural industry in
Canada and abroad, and are very proud to be associated with awards that
recognize quality programs and artists."
John Simcoe, Audit and Assurance Group partner in PwC's Entertainment &
Media practice, adds: "Despite the many challenges that face the entertainment
industry in this current economic climate, Canadian culture continues to
redefine itself, break new ground and enrich our lives. Through our
involvement with this year's Geminis, Genies and Junos we are delighted to
help celebrate the achievements of the best in Canadian television, film and
music."
This is the ninth year that PwC Canada has been the official ballot
accountants for the Geminis and the eighth year for the Genies. It is the
first year that we will count the ballots for the Junos. Melanie Berry,
President of the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, comments:
"Our Canadian awards shows help promote Canadian artists nationally and on the
international stage. As the ballot accountants for the Junos, PwC will help to
introduce emerging Canadian artists to a larger audience."
