QUEBEC CITY, Sept. 24 /CNW Telbec/ - In view of the by-election scheduled
in the electoral division Jean-Talon on Monday, September 29, 2008, the Chief
Electoral Officer of Québec, Me Marcel Blanchet, would like to announce that a
total of 160 polling stations, spread over 24 places of voting, will be open
between 9:30 a.m. and 8 p.m. on polling day.
In addition, 40,309 electors were registered on the list of electors of
these three electoral divisions at the end of the ordinary revision period;
that is, September 16, 2008.
A total of 32,883 reminder cards will be distributed before the weekend
to each home in Jean-Talon. Electors who would like to know the address of
their polling station are invited to consult this reminder card. They can also
consult the special section devoted to by-elections on the Website of the
Chief Electoral Officer (www.electionsquebec.qc.ca) or contact the Information
Centre at 1-888-ELECTION (1-888-353-2846).
As a reminder, every elector has to provide his name and address to the
deputy returning officer in order to be able to vote on polling day.
Furthermore, electors have to establish their identity by presenting one of
the following documents:
- Québec health insurance card
- driver's license
- Canadian passport
- Certificate of Indian status, or
- Canadian forces identity card.
Statistics on the advance poll
Following the advance poll held on September 21 & 22, 2008, 4,635 of the
40,309 electors entered after the ordinary revision period exercised their
right to vote. It should be noted that ballots cast in mobile polling stations
by persons who are unable to move about and at the office of the returning
officer are included in the advance poll.
The table below shows the breakdown of these figures for the electoral
divisions and compares them with the results of the advance poll for the
general elections held on March 26, 2007:
